Stand Still

My vision for this particular shooting was to photograph a mass of people getting off the train in Worcester.  While I was waiting for the train to arrive I started photographing the people waiting to get on the train.  I found it interesting as soon as they could see the train coming they all stood completely still, just following the train with their eyes.  I enjoy the balance of the mostly motionless silhouetted people against the motion of the train.

Train Catching

This was my second attempt to take the perfect train picture that day. On my first attempt I missed the train, on my second I had looked up the wrong times, so the train was actually already there waiting, when I really was hoping for people to be getting off.  Fortunately, right before the train and I left, I saw one man running to catch it.  It was perfect.  While I did go back to the station another time that day, I still had something I was happy with.

Blur

After a long day of traveling I sat at a table in South Station waiting for my train to bring me back to Worcester.  I had nothing to do but take pictures for the next two hours.  But it seemed everyone around me was rushing from one location to the next.  I felt I was just sitting amongst a blur of people. No greetings were exchanged, just fast paced walking to catch the next cab.  I wanted to capture the way I felt at that moment, which was an outside observer that watched time fly past her.

Free Bibles

Over spring break my grandparents thought it would be interesting to take me to bike week in Daytona.  It was most certainly an experience.  There were thousands of motorcyclists lining the streets.  The sounds of accelerating engines filled the air.  So many people were on the sidewalk that I could hardly stop to take a picture before someone would bump into me, or walk across my photo.  Many people were drunk, and many women with little clothes on, some were on tables. It was chaos.  Then I saw this man.  Humbly sitting on his bike handing out free bibles.  It seemed so strange to me in the given context.  I tried to take a picture conveying the surreal emotion I felt when I experienced this encounter first hand.  To me, this is very strange and beautiful.

Fallen Trees

I was driving up by Worcester airport and I was interested in the sides of the road.  There were rows and rows of trees and branches that had fallen from the previous ice storm. As I continued driving I saw these four trees.  All of them were dilapidated in some way.  Some just had lost a few branches, while one of them had about split in half.

Light

On Shrewsbury Street there is a store dedicated to selling lamps of all shapes and sizes.  At night the owner kept the lights on so the store lit up like a christmas tree.  I was drawn to it like a fly.  I knew I wanted to take a picture, but I wasn't sure at what angle.  There were so many lamps and so much going on.   I was drawn to the mirror because you could see the road behind you.  I was attracted to this particular view because it involved so many layers.

Gas Station

I was walking around Worcester at about 10 p.m.  I was quickly amazed with how quiet the downtown area was at this time.  During the day I would never be able to photograph this gas station without a constant flow of cars and trucks coming and leaving.  I was moved by the stillness of the bottom level in comparison to the movement of vehicles on the highway overhead.
